Man arrested after allegedly abusing girlfriend's baby

Posted: Updated:

Police arrested a man on child abuse charges after he allegedly abused his girlfriend's baby.

Saturday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a call for an unresponsive infant at a home on Dickson Street in Tuscumbia.

A two-month-old baby was transported to Helen Keller Hospital and then to the intensive care unit at UAB.

Tuscumbia Police arrested Ryan Anthony Allen, 21, and charged him with aggravated child abuse.  Police said the charge could change pending the baby's condition.

According to Police Chief Tony Logan, doctors said the baby was a victim of "shaken baby syndrome."

Authorities said Allen denied any wrong doing but later admitted to getting frustrated when the baby was crying and he couldn't sleep.

Allen is being held under a $25,000 bond.
