LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Lawrence County Sheriff's investigators have arrested a man in connection with a recent string of counterfeit money cases.

Investigators arrested Gerald Scott Kirby, 43, for possession of counterfeit money after he was identified as the person who paid with six counterfeit twenty dollar bills at an East Lawrence Community business. Kirby became a suspect after a witness described the offender.

The sheriff said investigators had been looking into the fake money after several merchants complained about the counterfeits being passed at their businesses. The investigators have been in contact with the Secret Service, who is also investigating.

This case is ongoing, and additional arrests may be forthcoming.

Kirby is being held in the Lawrence County Jail with no bond set at the moment.
