Flood barricades ignored by some motorists

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

One of the warnings officials give in any flood situation is that if you see water on the road, do not go through it.

So many people were cutting around ‘Water on Roadway" signs that Limestone County asked for help from the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said even their physical presence at the barricades did not stop everyone; many went right around. County Commissioner Steve Turner said the roads already suffering from damage from roads were battered even more due to people driving off the side to navigate around traffic cones and signs.

Even if you do not see water in the immediate area around warning signs, you can never be certain about what lies ahead, especially at night when obstacles and water can be obscured.

Tickets for failing to observe warning signs or directions from law enforcement can be as high as $500. The best way to avoid that fine is to stay safe and avoid those barricaded areas altogether.
