Hebron Community, AL (WAFF) -

A Hebron community woman said she is thankful the funnel cloud she witnessed this week did not develop into a tornado.

Michelle Poarch said she was enjoying her anniversary with her husband Wednesday afternoon, when she came out of her home in the Hebron community and saw a funnel cloud.

Her husband ran to get the keys to their storm shelter. Michelle ran to get her camera, intending to grab a shot or two before taking cover.

Knowing that time was of the essence, Michelle said she whipped out her camera and began taking photos. Then something unexpected happened.

"My husband thought it was headed this way," said Poarch. "But to me, it looked like it was just sitting there. It got a little bend, then it started widening, then it just broke up and went away."

Michelle never made it to the storm shelter, having witnessed the beginning and end of the funnel cloud. After a tornado did make close contact with her home in 2011, Poarch said she doesn't like to take chances, but is thankful this one did not progress into a destructive storm.
