ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

A couple who owns a furniture store in Limestone County is assessing the damage left behind after flood waters entered the business Wednesday.

The business has insurance, but this kind of flooding is not covered in their policy.

Thursday's flooding brought water to the front door of Jimmy's Furniture Outlet in Limestone County. A nearby creek rose so fast, the business barely had enough time to stack a few sandbags. Some of the furniture lying outside now is ruined.

"Sometimes it floats away and we've recovered it before," explained owner Barbara Powers. "Nobody wants it after it's been sitting in the water or floated down."

The furniture store was planning on big profits during a usually successful Fourth of July weekend. Now they are just trying to stay afloat.

"Unless you take out a special insurance policy that covers rising waters, we are not covered," said Powers. This is not the first time they have dealt with this kind of disaster, which is why they want the county to come out and check the creek.

"We just pick ourselves back up, and we keep going," said Powers.

But if the creek continues to rise, the business could be sunk.
