Rainfall totals for 4th of July washout

Independence Day was a washout for some in the Tennessee Valley. According to the National Weather Service, a band of rain set up to the north and west of Huntsville causing prolonged heavy rainfall and significant flooding.

Between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, the heaviest rainfall was 9.05 inches reported near Harvest. Bankhead National Forest received 8.29 inches during that time.

In Limestone County, the Athens/Capshaw area received 6.18 inches.

At the Decatur Airport, 6.18 inches was reported. In Madison County, at the Huntsville International Airport, the rainfall was reported to be 4.61 inches.
