Man wanted in connection with Decatur murder arrested in Birmingham

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A man wanted in connection with a Decatur murder investigation has been captured in Birmingham.

Birmingham police along with U.S. Marshals arrested Charles K. Makekau Tuesday morning. He was wanted for providing false or misleading information to investigators in the June 18 murder of 21-year-old James Patrick Travers II.

Travers' body was found on Highway 31 after a reported burglary on Mitchell Pines Trail. No one has been charged for the murder.

Investigators said Makekau was interviewed shortly after the murder and provided false information to police. They said he had been avoiding investigators until his arrest.
