HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - With all the changes in downtown Huntsville, it can be a little confusing to figure out where to park. We get questions all the time on See, Click, Fix, so WAFF 48 News went to the city's director of parking and transportation to sort it all out.
"Parking after 5 p.m. downtown is free on the street," said Tommy Brown. "We have adequate parking. We have plenty of parking. When the downtown street parking fills up, we want people to utilize the garages and lots."
Several of them are open at night for special events and the new entertainment districts. The Central City garage across from City Hall is open and free after 5 p.m., so is the lot across from the Church of the Nativity. The only one that is open and charging during city events is the garage on Clinton Avenue.
"We have to have someone for clean-up," said Brown. "We have to have someone to provide some level of security for the garage, so that garage charges $2, but all of the other garages are open and free."
And soon, there could be more spaces on the street. Brown said when Washington Street is finished, there will be another 30-40 spaces there.
