Guntersville man arrested for hit-and-run

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

One man has been arrested after attempting to flee the scene of an accident involving a pedestrian Saturday.

It happened around 4 p.m., when the vehicle was traveling on the inbound lanes of Highway 79 South from Oneonta. The vehicle struck the pedestrian on the right shoulder of the highway and then left the scene.

Law enforcement officials were able to track the vehicle down to a residence on Miller Road in Guntersville. The driver, 54, Billy Ray Owens of Guntersville was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Additional charges are pending.

The victim, 47, Jeffery Mark Boyd of Attalla was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. His condition and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
