LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The two sons of former Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer were arrested Saturday and booked on simple arson charges after allegedly setting fire to a storage shed containing property belonging to Grimmer's wife, who is also their stepmother, according to State Fire Marshal Butch Browning.

Firefighters were called to Grimmer's home on Pendarvis Lane around 7:40 am for a report of shed fire on the property. Firefighters found evidence that the blaze was set intentionally and requested arson investigators, Browning said.

After interviewing Grimmer's wife and assessing the scene, investigators identified 33-year-old John Grimmer and 31-year-old Aaron Grimmer as suspects. They were arrested a short time later with the help of Walker Police and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on charges of simple arson, simple burglary and discharging a firearm within city limits. Browning said the pair confessed to setting the fire.

An ongoing domestic dispute appears to be the motive behind the fire, Browning said. The shed contained at least $5,000 worth of furniture and other personal items belonging to Grimmer's wife.

Mike Grimmer was not in the parish at the time of the fire and is not a suspect in the investigation, Browning said.

Grimmer was arrested on May 30th for domestic abuse after his wife called police asking for help. Since that time he and his wife had not been living in the same house, Browning said.
