St. Mary Parish -

A man was arrested Friday and charged after being suspected in an attempted shooting and robbery that happened June 14, 2013.

According to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, three black males approached the victim, a Hispanic male, and attempted to rob him outside of a lounge on Hwy 182 in Amelia, LA. The victim was shot. He has since been released from the hospital.

Deputies released descriptions of two "persons of interest" whom they believed had information about the shooting.  One was later identified as a suspect after deputies received tips from the public and other evidence.

Paul "Diddy" Charles, 22, of Morgan City, was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm. Charles also had a warrant, and he was charged for failure to appear on a traffic charge.

No bond is set.

Sheriff Mark Hebert says the investigation is still ongoing.
