The East Franklin County community met Thursday to discuss a grant opportunity which would allow them to fix unmet needs left behind from the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak.

Commissioner Barry Moore said about $1.6 million is being requested from a $25 million community development block grant. That federal money would be used to repair about 18 miles of damaged roads caused by the tornado outbreak, as well as cleanup costs.

The County Commission said they are very grateful to be able to apply for some of the funds available.

Other areas eligible for federal assistance include Marion, Cullman, and Jefferson counties.
