LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Lawrence County Commissioners made a decision Thursday that they said will allow them to make payroll and pay the bills for the rest of the fiscal year.

Commissioners voted to borrow $400,000 from a bank. They said the county has been about $50,000 – 60,000 over budget per month.

According to commissioners, part of the reason for being over budget is because of money owed to the county that hasn't come in yet. That includes state funds to supplement the county's matching funds for projects like road work, state money to reimburse the county for election costs, and even some FEMA funds related to the April 2011 tornado outbreak.

Commissioners said they just need to get through this then tighten the belt even more.

"To ensure we bring our budget down next year to make it where, not to run the county like a business but run it like a household. Make it like a put back to make sure you can handle anything that comes. Any kind of emergency," said Lawrence County Commissioner, Joey Hargrove.

The county plans to use value-added property tax revenue to pay back the loan by December 31st.
