HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Thousands of Redstone Arsenal employees will be affected by furloughs, but they are fighting back.

Employees initiated a furlough workshop to help federal employees get on the same page so they can appeal to the Merit System Protection Board. Their goal is to get the amount of days they are supposed to be furloughed reduced, or eliminated altogether.

"We feel we have paid our fair share," said Abner Merriweather, President of the American Federation of Government Employees.

July 8 is the first day that federal employees can appeal to the Merit System Protection Board. Once those letters are submitted, they will wait for a response.
