1 year after fatal hit-and-run, family members seek closure

Jonathan Jackson was killed in a hit-and-run accident a year ago. Jonathan Jackson was killed in a hit-and-run accident a year ago.

It's been one year since a military veteran was hit and killed while walking on Moore's Mill Road. The driver fled the scene and hasn't been found since. Jonathan Jackson's family members are speaking out hoping that someone who saw something that tragic night will come forward.

"He was such a part of our lives and he's just gone and it doesn't make sense," said Jackson's aunt, Dawn Longtin. "It doesn't make sense what happened to him and that nothing's been done about it."

Longtin said it hasn't been easy dealing with her nephew's death.  Jackson, an Iraq war veteran and father of two young sons, was walking on Highway 72 near Moore's Mill Road in Huntsville last year when he was hit. The driver didn't stop and didn't come back.

"I can't understand how somebody could do that and leave him there," Longtin said.

Jackson died on the way to the hospital. Police said that he was hit by a black Honda Accord, but they have yet to find the car or the person who was driving.

"He could have been their son or their brother or their father or their nephew and they would want someone to help if they knew something," she said.

Twelve months later, with no answers and no closure, Longtin pleads that someone can be brought to justice for killing a man described as a great father whose life was cut tragically short.

"Please come forward," she pleads. "They haven't spent the last year missing the person they love and wondering what happened and how somebody could do this to them."

Longtin has been in contact with police since the accident. They had no new information to share about the case.
