MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

An injured lifeguard helped save a Madison County boy from drowning this week and advises every family to learn CPR.

A little boy was pulled from a pool at a home on Henson Dr. in Madison County last week. Karla Owen, a lifeguard for the City of Huntsville, was inside the home when she heard a commotion outside and  ran out to help. She is trained to deal with situations like this, but she said it's important for everyone to learn CPR.

"It would not hurt for everybody to learn," Owen said. "One to two people in each household should know how to do CPR, how to do the Heimlich maneuver, how to do rescue breathing."

"You never know what situation you're going to be in."

Owen is currently recovering from a broken ankle. She said she didn't let that stop her from helping to save a young boy's life.
