A man convicted of killing his wife, will remain in prison. A parole hearing took place Wednesday for Douglas Scott Barron.

Barron was convicted of killing his wife, Sheila Battles Barron, in May of 1989. Barron was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

On Tuesday, the parole board denied Barron's request for an early release.

The family of the victim attended Wednesday's hearing and said they're happy Barron will stay behind bars, but going through this process is hard.

"We have stood strong as a family and I think that when we come here every five years it just makes us stronger and it makes us more determined to keep him where he's at and where he belongs," said Lisa Jones, daughter of Sheila Battles Barron.

Barron is set to be released in 2019. His next parole hearing his scheduled for 2018.
