SENECA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirms one person was killed in an accident involving a car and semi truck in Seneca County Tuesday.
The patrol says the accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and state Route 587, southeast of Fostoria in Seneca County.
Troopers say a semi truck driven by Bryan Hughes, 34, of Oak Harbor, was traveling westbound on US-224 approaching the intersection of SR 587, when Victoria McKelvey, 38, of Willard, was traveling southbound on SR 587 in a Pontiac Vibe. McKelvey ran the stop sign and struck Hughes' vehicle.
According to troopers, McKelvey was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County Coroner Mark Akers.
Her 7-year-old daughter, who was sitting in a booster seat in the back, was not secured properly. She was taken by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital.
US-224 was closed for approximately three hours while emergency crews were on scene.
