Paula Deen's fans are coming out in droves to support her on social media.

Just before WTOC's 6 p.m. newscast, 36 Facebook pages had been created in support of Deen, the largest of them with 306,000 "likes."

Deen's fans lashed out on the Food Network's Facebook page after the company decided Friday not to renew Deen's contract.

On one of Deen's support sites, fans brought up scandals involving other Food Network celebrities. Iron Chef Cat Cora pleaded guilty in 2012 to DUI and still is on the network.

Chef Robert Irvine was dropped by the Food Network in 2008 after it was revealed he'd embellished some fantastic-sounding parts of his resume, including having cooked for the Royal Family.

Irivine's "Dinner Impossible" and "Restaurant Impossible" shows now are back on the Food Network. He's opened a restaurant, "Nosh" in Bluffton.

WTOC reached out to the Food Network to find out whether they have any comment on the social media support Deen has been receiving. In an email, a station spokeswoman said she had "no update at this time."
