5 people injured in I-65 wreck

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

A wreck on Interstate 65 backed up traffic that injured five people Saturday evening.

State Troopers said it happened around mile-marker 348 just three miles south of Athens.

Investigators said a 2002 Chevy Suburban was traveling northbound when a tire blew and the vehicle ran off the roadway.

Troopers said the driver of the vehicle, Leah Clark, had to be flown to Huntsville Hospital. She remains in critical condition. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

A man and three children were also injured in that crash. Two of the children, including the youngest, a six-year old, were not wearing seatbelts at the time.

No word on their conditions. State Troopers said the family were natives from Louisville, Kentucky.
