Splash pad opens at Brahan Spring Park

The city of Huntsville has a new place to beat the heat this summer.

Mayor Tommy Battle presided over the ribbon cutting at the new splash pad at the ‘EveryBody Can Play' playground in Brahan Spring Park. The aquatic play area and special needs playground is a joint venture of the City of Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department and Huntsville area Optimist and Kiwanis clubs.

"The water park is opening just in time for the hottest days of summer," said Mayor Battle. "Thanks to our community's creativity and volunteer spirit, we now have a handicap-accessible playground for children and adults."

The $250,000 splash pad brings the total investment in the special needs playground to over $850,000. The play area is space themed and has 51 different water features such as sprinklers and water cannons.

"This is an outstanding effort," said Director of Parks & Recreation Greg Patterson. "This project has been a dream for five years, and it has taken hundreds of volunteers from across the city to make it happen."

The splash pad is located at Brahan Spring Park, across from the recreation center on Ivy Street. It is open seven days a week starting at 10:00 a.m.
