ONEONTA, AL (WBRC) -

Two prayer vigils were held in Blount County Thursday night for a missing local girl and University of Alabama student.

Allysa Huffstutler disappeared while white water rafting with friends Wednesday evening. Some of the floats, including Huffstutler's, overturned in the water. When the group got back together, they realized Huffstutler was missing.

Dozens of people came together at Oneonta High School to pray for her safe return. A minister told the crowd to turn to God because "even in the darkest moments, He is watching over us."

Vigil attendees tell FOX6 News that Allysa is always happy, full of life, and fun to be around. Many people say this situation is surreal and hope she will be found safe.

Crews began searching for the missing woman, a junior at the University of Alabama, around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Search and rescue crews have been in the water, in the air and on the ground searching for Huffstutler.

The search crews were slowly suspended this evening as night approached and officials say the search will begin anew in the morning.
