State determines restitution for school shooter's mom

Posted: Updated:
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Prosecutors said the Discovery School Shooter's mother owes more than $350 in restitution.

Safia Memon pleaded guilty to attempting to hinder prosecution. She took her son, Hammad, to Texas in an attempt to flee the country before his murder trial.

The state filed court documents stating Safia Memon owes the Madison County Sheriff's Department $51 and the Madison County District Attorney's Office $320, bringing the total restitution to $371.

That money was spent transporting Hammad Memon back to North Alabama to face a murder charge.

Hammad Memon pleaded guilty to Todd Brown's murder and will spend 30 years in prison. Iqbal Memon, Hammad's father, will go to trial for a charge of hindering prosecution later this year.
