HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Law enforcement officials want to be ready if an active shooter incident takes place in the Valley.

Thursday is the second of a two-day instruction course hosted by the FBI on active shooter incidents at UAH. Agents say this is in response to the massive school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut back in December. A shooter there killed twenty children and six adults.

Local officers are learning how to deal with mass casualties, multiple crime scenes, and how to handle victims and their families.

"We are providing lessons learned and best practices that have been collected as a result, unfortunately, of a great many of these incidents over the course of many years here in the United States," said Phillip Celestini of the FBI in Birmingham.

Law enforcement will also learn about different things to look for to help prevent a violent attack.
