The Huntsville City School Board discussed the annual review of Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski Tuesday.

The Board developed a list of goals they wanted the superintendent to achieve over the past year.

Tuesday night, the board went over the list and outlined what improvements have been made. One goal dealt with ‘accelerated learning.' The report showed graduation rates increased by 17 percent this year.

Another goal for Wardynski was to meet the Department of Justice requirements to reach unitary status, where he has made progress. The district is also moving forward with the plan to build seven new schools.

"This was a great demonstration that on every single factor, progress has been made. Just knocked it out of the park," remarked school board member Jennie Robinson.

"It's very positive news," said board member Mike Culbreath. He added that it was bittersweet news, coming on the same day as the release of the failing schools list.

The board will vote on the superintendent's evaluation on July 9.
