HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The City of Huntsville is poised to kick off two arts and entertainment districts this week.

Mayor Tommy Battle held a news conference Tuesday to explain how the city is easing into things. Battle said a committee will meet after this weekend to re-evaluate the process and decide if anything needs to change.

Huntsville Police said officers will do everything they can to make this a smooth process. "First and foremost we just want to make sure it's safe," a police spokesman said. "We're going to have police officers down here on bikes and foot patrols to educate and make sure everyone's safe."

The districts will operate Thursday and Friday nights from 5 - 10 p.m.
