BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Police are looking for two men they say burst into a home and tried to rob a Birmingham man and woman early this morning.

Officers say two black men in their 20's broke into a home in the Roebuck area on Linwood Street around 3 a.m. Monday. The two suspects forced their way into the house, where a man and woman were inside.

Police say the male victim ran from the house and one of the suspects shot him in the ankle. His wound is not life-threatening. The woman in the house was not harmed.

Both suspects fled the scene after the shooting. They have not yet been captured or identified.

Police do not yet know if this was a random act or if the man and woman were targeted. They hope to have more information as the investigation develops.

Sgt. Johnny Williams with BPD said if you are ever in a similar situation to try to remain calm.

"The only thing you can do is remain vigilant, arm your security system if you have one, join a neighborhood watch group, and if you see anything suspicious call police," Williams said.

If you saw anything suspicious around Linwood Street, near Huffman Road, call Birmingham Police at 205-254-1764.
