CULLMAN, AL (WBRC) -

There's a cool event this weekend in Cullman to help a nine-year-old boy fight diabetes.

Xander Bonelli was diagnosed with diabetes when he was four. At times, he suffers a dramatic drop in blood sugar levels that causes him to be lethargic and on the verge of going into a coma.

The family wants to get a dog, specially trained to detect when the boy's blood sugar drops.

Saturday, June 15 there will be a fundraiser for Bonelli at Sportsman Lake Park in Cullman. It will be held at pavilion #11 from noon to 4 p.m. Proceeds from the barbeque sale will help cover some of the cost of the dog and training.
