PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

The person responsible for instigating a chase that injured a Prattville Police Officer on Tuesday night has now been arrested and charged.

Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson says officers arrested 23-year-old James Mcgregor Darby and charged him with attempting to elude law enforcement, illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, running a stop sign, improper lane change, and reckless driving.

The officer involved in the pursuit returned to duty Thursday.

The pursuit started Tuesday night on Old Ridge Road in Prattville after an officer observed the suspect doing what they believed to be drug activity inside the suspect's vehicle.

During the chase the officer lost control of their patrol unit. The vehicle struck a concrete utility pole and came to a rest near East Memorial Baptist Church.

That officer, who has not been identified, was transported to an area hospital after the crash and was later released to recover at home.
