MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A section of Madison Avenue was shut down this afternoon, after what was believed to be an explosive was found in one of the homes. Police say a resident found old, potential "ordnance" in their shed. All precautions were taken by Montgomery law enforcement. Multiple agencies responded to the scene. The scare turned out to be a false alarm. The "ordnance" is no longer active.

WSFA 12 news spoke with a man working on the home where the object was found. He tells us that he is part of a group renovating an older house on Madison Avenue and South Madison Terrace, when a worker found a practice round for an old mortar. Again, officials say the round was not active and no one was ever in danger.

As officials investigated the incident, Madison Avenue was shut down from Capitol Parkway to California Street.
