GRANT, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County teen was accused of attacking a school administrator.

The principal of DAR High School, Stacy Anderton, said this rarely happens. While there may be school fights, the principal said it's very uncommon that the fight will involve injury to a school official.

Anderton said this fight last December was the only fight where a school official was injured in his eight years at the school.

He said they average anywhere from three to five fights a year. Most of those are pushing or shoving.

Anderton said the lunchroom, where this fight was, is the most common area where fights occur.

He urges teachers to remain visible at all times and said most fights can be broken up by a teacher making their presence known or telling them to stop.

Sometimes, however, their trained teachers must go into action.

"We do have restraint training that we provide for our teachers.  That is something that we do offer to all of our faculty, and most definitely our coaches and male teachers are restraint trained," Anderton said.

Justin Blake Pittman, 18 of Grant, is currently facing felony assault charges after the fight, which left a teacher who intervened with a broken nose.

Pittman is due for an arraignment hearing in August.

Anderton said they are also very thankful to have a school resource officer at the school.
