FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The Lauderdale County Detention Center has beefed up security after several inmates escaped.

This week, crews added more fencing and razor wire to the exterior of the jail. Their goal is to decrease the number of inmates who are getting to the roof of the building and escaping.

Commissioner Larry Irons says he's pleased with the work that's been done.

"The repairs look great," said Irons. "Hopefully this will take care of the situation that has happened in the past 6, 8, ten months of people getting out," said Irons.

Since November, six inmates have escaped the jail. All of them have since been captured.
