FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Court records released late Thursday afternoon detail charges in the federal raid on an income tax business in Franklin County.

The 19 page indictment lays out charges against people connected to JP Tax professional services. It details what government investigators say is a case of mail and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

More than a dozen people are named in this indictment, some are in Franklin County and some are in Louisiana.

Federal agents raided the business in Spruce Pine Tuesday. Agents loaded files and other items from the home into a truck.

Neighbors say federal agents took two people into custody.

The alleged scheme revolves around individual taxpayer identification numbers used to obtain documents such as social security numbers.

The court documents say the people behind this alleged conspiracy would get IRS W-2 forms for the purpose of filing false income tax returns, all part of a plot going back to 2010.

The indictment states the defendants deposited the money from the fake returns. The indictment also puts the defendants on notice that the government will try to get the money that has been laundered back.

So far, no court dates have been set in the case.
