DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Twenty people were taken into custody as part of a major drug roundup Wednesday morning in DeKalb County after a long-term undercover operation by deputies there.

While there were some arrests just dealing with drugs, the focus of the roundup was on prescription drugs.

Warrants and deputies went out Wednesday at 7 a.m. to apprehend some 32 people on drug and drug distribution charges.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said it's been a seven month undercover operation focusing on the sale of prescription pills.

He said it's been a problem for people who have prescriptions then sell their drugs, so he hopes to get them off the street.

By late Wednesday afternoon, approximately 20 people were in custody and a wall at the sheriff's office showed all who were left to catch.

"You can see on the board we've been pretty successful today.   I hope we have everybody in here by dark.  If they see their picture up there, they might as well come on in. That's all I can tell them because we're coming after them," said Harris.

Harris said a second roundup is planned, but he's not saying when that might happen.
