Huntsville Police have arrested a person in connection with a homicide investigation that officers said first appeared to be a minor traffic accident.

Police said they found the victim dead in her vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Hester Lane and Searcy Drive in Northwest Huntsville.

After examining the scene, investigators concluded the victim, identified as 29-year-old Ezrhea Danyell Cherry, died prior to the accident as a result of a homicide. According to police, Cherry was partially dressed and had been shot several times by a hand gun.

"It's been very devastating because the type of life that my sister lived, she was known by everybody so for this to happen or for anything to happen is just a shock to the family," said Kenneth Berry Jr., Ezrhea's brother.  "We never thought in a million years that it would be her that anything would happen to."

"This was a tragedy for any mother or family to go through Rea was young and full of life," said Ezrhea's mother, Sevina.  "Regardless to what anybody thinks, she was somebody's aunt, someone's sister, someone's daughter."

Officers arrested 18-year-old Dominick Lewis Everson on first degree murder charges.

Berry said he has no idea how his sister might have known Everson.

"There's no way possible I will say, me knowing my sister that she would associate herself with anyone of that stature," he said.  "He was too young and it's puzzling me especially because I know that's not my sister."

Police said Everson was also the suspect involved in an armed robbery of a cab driver that happened in November, 2012. Everson was 17 at the time but was prosecuted as an adult. He was charged with attempted murder for the 2012 crime and his bond was set at $60,000.

Everson is currently in the Metro Jail.

Cherry's body was sent to the forensics lab for an autopsy.

Funeral arrangements have not been set.  Her family has set up a fund at Redstone Federal Credit Union to help pay for funeral costs.
