GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County town is making strides in the road to recovery after the April, 2011 tornadoes.

An EF-1 tornado hit Buck Island, leaving major damage to the area.

Two years later, a TVA walking trail on the island will officially reopen.

As a finale before opening the trail, volunteers will be out in full force making a final cleanup of the trail.

Falling on National Trails Day, the TVA Buck Island Trail will officially reopen Saturday morning.

The trail is located off Buck Island Road on the island.

The trail is a couple miles long but was covered in trees after the April, 2011 tornado.

Over the winter, TVA officials began clearing the heavy debris from the trail.

On Saturday, they're planning to do a final cleaning and install some new signs. Volunteers are asked to bring water, snacks, sturdy hiking boots, and work gloves and TVA will provide the rest.

"What we're looking for, just some volunteers to come help pick up this garbage, and we'll have some tools, some small hand tools, where they can pick up garbage and help clear back some of this vegetation.  And then just to also learn about TVA land and what some of our rules and regulations are and what we ask," said TVA watershed representative, Josh Burnette.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and runs through noon.
