FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

A judge ruled on a key proposal for a new hospital in the Shoals Friday morning.

Regional Care Hospital Partners wanted to build a 300-bed hospital in east Florence. The new facility would replace ECM Hospital which is on the other side of town.

Officials at Helen Keller Hospital and other Huntsville Hospital affiliates are against the idea, saying that the new hospital is too big and fear it will be detrimental to their facilities.

A judge is recommending a new hospital be built but with fewer beds. The judge also said no to a proposed cancer facility.
