HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A memorial now stands at the scene where a 10-year-old girl died in a crash earlier this week at Weatherly Road and Bailey Cove Road.

At this point in time, no charges have been filed against the 18-year-old accused of triggering this pileup.

Huntsville Police said late Tuesday afternoon, 10-year-old Jaden Coppens was killed after the van she was traveling in was smashed by a truck driven by 18-year-old Gunner Scarano.

Four other vehicles were involved.

Police said minutes earlier, Scarano hit four other vehicles about a mile-and-a-half away.

More than half a dozen people were hospitalized from second accident scene, including Jaden's mother and sister.

Police did take Scarano's blood for testing. They want to make sure he was not impaired in any way when he slammed into the van.

The district attorney's office said they are waiting on those results.

Authorities said the forensics lab will specifically test for two things. First, they will determine if there is any presence of alcohol, and second, if there is any presence of controlled substances.

Alabama forensics teams do about 4,000 of these every year.

Authorities said they don't believe the analysis will be done for several weeks, if not months, on the 18-year-old driver.
