HACKLEBURG, AL (WAFF) -

A group of firefighters who survived the April 2011 tornadoes is helping a small Oklahoma town that was devastated by the recent tornado outbreak. They traveled to Oklahoma to help with relief efforts after massive tornadoes destroyed parts of the Heartland.

The crew is home in northwest Alabama, but they are already planning a second trip to help victims.

Without a second guess, the disaster relief team loaded up and headed towards Shawnee, Oklahoma. They helped victims there and in a small town called Bethel Acres, similar to Hackleburg.

The team provided some of the first manpower to the area, using chainsaws to help clear and move debris.

They were also self-sufficient, sleeping in tents and cooking their own meals to help lighten the load and provide more hours of help.

The group plans on heading back in a few weeks to help storm victims in Bethel Acres.
