An Oneonta police officer was seriously injured in a crash during a police chase early Monday morning.

The crash happened on County Road 9 when Herd was on his way to put out spike strips. He lost control of his car in a curve and hit a wall.

Herd was transported to UAH in serious condition. He did not undergo surgery, but was put in a brace.

He is expected to be out several weeks as he heals from head injuries and cuts on his arm.
