    On Aug 20 The Decatur Police Department's Patrol Devision responded to a 911 call at a local motel. The call was received from an undetermined room.After further investigating, the people in the room were identified as William Alfonso Swopes and Amanada Morrow. Officers soon discovered that Swopes had an active felony warrant in Ohio.Officers confirmed Swopes' warrant and gathered information that James Daniel Sapp Jr. was going to arrive with an amount of methamphetamine.More >>

Anyone who has visited Callaway Gardens prior to May 24, 2013 may have had their credit card information compromised.

A credit card processing company notified multiple companies, including Callaway Gardens, that sophisticated fraudulent credit card activity had been detected in their systems.

This potential criminal activity has been reported to the law enforcement authorities. Callaway Gardens uses the latest computer security technologies, and top experts in the field of computer forensics have been retained for a more thorough investigation.

Callaway Gardens has notified the four credit card companies, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, and the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies about this security breach. Guests who have used their credit cards at Callaway Gardens are advised to take the following steps:

Review and begin to closely monitor financial accounts and, if any unauthorized activity is noticed, promptly contact the appropriate financial institution.

  • Contact the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies to obtain a credit report. Free credit reports are available by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com, calling (877) 322-8228, or completing the Annual Credit Report Form on the Federal Trade Commission website at http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0155-free-credit-reports.
  • If any incidences of fraud are detected, promptly contact your local law enforcement authority, your state Attorney General (www.naag.org), and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov).
  • You also can obtain information about additional methods to prevent identity theft from these credit reporting agencies.
