DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Many of the first responders involved in a mutual aid drill in Decatur Tuesday were some of the ones on the ground in the wake of the April 27th tornado outbreak. They understand what emergency workers are dealing with after a massive tornado struck Moore, Oklahoma.

The simulated disaster in Decatur was an explosion at a building with people trapped inside. Agencies from every county in north Alabama were represented, working together, like what happened in late April of 2011.

"I was in three different counties that day," said Stacy Rose, the deputy Fire Marshal and spokesperson for Decatur Fire and Rescue.

Rose said this drill helps cohesiveness between agencies as they establish a working relationship that may be needed when the disaster is real.

"Some of these guys we may not ever see unless there is a disaster. So having this kind of a drill really helps up get together. And when we do have to respond in the real situation, you're familiar with the people you'll be seeing and working with. Seeing that familiar face pull up on a neighboring fire truck, it kind of helps your confidence," Rose said.

The two-day mutual aid drill concluded Wednesday. Law enforcement and Hazmat crews were also involved. Several agencies conducted an active shooter drill Tuesday.
