HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville's plan to buy the East Clinton school property could go before the city council as soon as this Thursday's meeting.

Mayor Tommy Battle said public input shows them that most people want to keep the historical school.

The city also wants to preserve the school's four acre park in the heart of the Old Town historic district.

"We feel comfortable with the city coming in because we feel like they can have some control over what goes there. We're very pleased," said resident Patty Pruitt.

The city of Huntsville is also talking to a private school about possibly selling the East Clinton school structure.
