HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Early-morning commuters encountered heavy traffic in South Huntsville due to downed cable lines hovering over Memorial Parkway Monday morning.

Traffic resumed on the Parkway going both directions by 7:40 a.m. after utilities crews cleared lines downed by a dump truck earlier that morning.

Police said the dump truck was traveling south on the Parkway sometime after 4 a.m. when it snagged under cable lines that hang across the Parkway near Golf Road.

Huntsville Utilities crews surveyed the scene and determined the lines were not electricity lines and power was not affected.

Police said the lines were fiber-optic cables.

Utility trucks from AT&T and Xfinity were seen inspecting the scene but officers were still confirming early Monday morning what company owns the lines.

Crews spent about four hours removing the lines from the truck. The driver was not injured, according to police.

Officers closed the Parkway from Airport Road to Byrd Spring Road during the repairs.

City of Huntsville Public Works said the truck belongs to Reed Contracting.
