Man accused in 2011 death of 3 month old boy

RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A 23 year old man is in the Franklin County Jail, charged with capital murder. Investigators say he's responsible for the July 2011 death of his three month old son.

According to Sheriff Shannon Oliver, the investigation began on July 2nd, 2011 when EMTs were called to a home at the Town and Country Trailer Park in Russellville. The child was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.

In the 22 months since, investigators have pieced together a case against the boy's father - Pablo Diego Larios. They say medical examinations and forensic testing show the boy died due to being violently shaken.

A capital murder warrant against Larios was filed on Wednesday, and the man was arrested in Decatur a few hours later. He's being held in the Franklin County Jail without bond. He's facing a possible death sentence if convicted.

Sheriff Oliver expressed disappointment at state forensics backlogs, which he says delayed the case much longer than was necessary.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
