UAH shooter asks court to reconsider appeal ruling

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (AP) -

An attorney for convicted killer Amy Bishop Anderson filed a petition for a rehearing with the Alabama Criminal Court of Appeals.

Bishop Anderson shot six colleagues during a Biology Department meeting at UAH in February 2010. Three of the victims died.

She pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted murder and one count of capital murder.

Alabama law requires a capital murder guilty plea to go before a jury. Bishop Anderson's jury found her guilty and sentenced her to life in prison without parole.

Bishop Anderson has since appealed that verdict, stating there were errors made during her plea hearing.

The Alabama Criminal Court of Appeals denied her appeal. The court has not made a decision on her request for a rehearing.

Bishop Anderson is currently in Tutwiler Women's Prison.
