LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County parents are up in arms over a brand new Twitter account they claim is being used as a digital slam book.

The account, called Limestone Confessions, boasts more than a thousand followers - mostly high school students - and was created a few days ago.

It allowed anyone to send a direct message to the account. Then Limestone Confessions would tweet it out, so everyone stayed anonymous.

How much damage can you do with 140 characters? According to several Limestone County parents, a lot.

The parents claim the Twitter account Limestone Confessions is tweeting trash about high school students across Athens and Limestone County.

The account has nearly 2,000 followers and has sent out more than 1,000 tweets. Some of the tweets seem harmless, but a majority of the others contain vulgar language mentioned specific students' names.

People's reactions seem split.

Travis tweeted Limestone Confessions is the most disgusting thing he's ever seen, but others, including a cheerleader named Megan, say it's the best thing that has probably ever happened to Twitter.

When contacted about the account, a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement: "We don't comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons."

Limestone County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Sisk told WAFF 48 News learned about the account on Tuesday. They're now making sure anyone mentioned in the tweets is okay.

"If you genuinely feel threatened or genuinely are upset and need to talk to somebody tell your teacher, tell your counselor," said Sisk.

Sisk is looking into what ramifications students could face if they participated in the account.

"We take every threat seriously because I don't ever want to ever find myself in front of a camera explaining why a child was harmed and we knew about it," said Sisk.

Limestone Confessions was shut down on Monday night. Limestone County Schools is aware of copy-cat accounts that have popped up since the original account closed.

Athens City Schools said officials are looking into the account because some of their students are potentially involved but did not share what their plans are to address the situation.
