DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The DeKalb County investigator accused of drunk driving is now headed for rehab.

He is getting a second chance, but District Attorney Mike O'Dell said he will have many hurdles to face and will be on a very short leash.

Gary Wayne Williams checked into an in-house alcohol treatment facility on Tuesday.

This after he damaged his state owned vehicle Saturday morning and was charged with DUI by Fort Payne Police.

O'Dell said Williams has forfeited his badge, gun, and credentials.

He said Williams must go through a program similar to that of the drug court program.

He has been demoted, his salary cut drastically, and has been reassigned to administrative responsibilities upon conclusion of alcohol treatment. O'Dell said any failure will result in immediate termination.

He said Williams will not get a state car and will be responsible for damages to the one he was driving.

He is expected in court on June 24.
