FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A DeKalb County district attorney's office investigator is now on leave after he was charged with DUI over the weekend.

District Attorney Mike O'Dell said he is now taking a look at what happened over the weekend.

The investigator declined to submit to a breath test when asked to do so.

Gary Wayne Williams is on leave after being charged with DUI around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Fort Payne Police said a witness saw Williams hit a guardrail on I-59 before exiting onto Highway 35 and heading toward Rainsville before he was stopped in his state issued vehicle.

Fort Payne Police said that state vehicle was turned over to the district attorney's office after Williams arrest.

Williams has since been released on a $1,000 bond.

As to Williams' future in the district attorney's office, O'Dell said that decision could come in the next 24 to 48 hours.
