BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A veteran Baton Rouge attorney has cleared all the hurdles and she will now become a Federal judge.

The U.S. Senate gave unanimous approval Thursday for Shelly Dick to take the position of Federal District Judge for the Middle District Court.

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu nominated Dick for the job last November.

"Ms. Dick is equipped with decades of federal court litigation experience and brings with her a thorough understanding of the federal court system" U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La. said. "By all accounts from her peers and colleagues, she is fair and even-handed with the necessary temperament to excel on the bench. She has also been extremely active in community service both in Louisiana and overseas, particularly in Cambodia, South Africa and Kenya. I was very proud to recommend Ms. Dick for this position and I thank my colleagues for confirming her so she can begin her work for the people of Louisiana as Federal District Judge for the Middle District Court."
